Stefanie Elle for Gilroy City Council - Join the Movement for Change!

Hey there, Gilroy! I’m Stefanie Elle and I’m running for City Council because, let’s be honest, it’s time to shake things up. For too long, decisions have been made without real scrutiny or accountability. On the Planning Commission, I’ve made it my mission to ask the hard questions others won’t, to demand transparency, and to make sure we’re not just passing things along because it’s easier. I don’t rubber-stamp anything—whether it’s in my personal life, my work, or as a public servant.

The Planning Commission has its limits, and if we’re really going to build a better, bolder Gilroy, we need leaders who aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo. That’s why I’m running for City Council. I’m ready to take this fight to the Council and make sure our city’s future is shaped by thoughtful, accountable leadership—not by settling for ‘good enough.’

Why This Campaign Matters:

Change is difficult, but it’s necessary for progress. I’m not running to offer quick fixes—I’m running to ensure thoughtful development that balances the needs of our community with our long-term future. That means building a Gilroy where economic development, housing, and enforcing current ordinances are aligned with the well-being of our residents. It also means building up City Hall to fill key positions and ensure responsiveness. We need local control whenever possible and must hold developers accountable to protect the interests of our city. Collaboration on the Council is key to making thoughtful, effective decisions that support Gilroy’s future.

I’ve been actively involved in shaping our city as a member of the Planning Commission since 2021 and I was reappointed in 2023. From the moment I joined, I was told to vote along with staff recommendations, but I was determined to critically evaluate each decision, challenge inconsistent processes, and ensure everything we approved was in the best interest of Gilroy. One of my proudest moments was protecting the VTA parking lot from being developed to ensure future infrastructure. I’ve been working hard to make sure Gilroy is positioned for success.

I believe we’re at the epicenter of change for Gilroy and this election is about making sure our city doesn't get left behind.

A Personal Note:

Beyond my work on the Planning Commission, Gilroy is home for me and my family. My husband, Ivan, is a commercial HVAC engineer, writer, and guitarist who shares my love for this community. We’re both car enthusiasts and even started a car club to celebrate classic rides. Our son, Max, serves in the Marine Corps and we’re incredibly proud of his service.

Of course, no introduction would be complete without our loyal German Shepherd, Ms. Maple Bar, who’s also a campaign superstar—check out her “Maple Mondays” on FaceBook, Instagram, and NextDoor!

In my free time, I’m a beekeeper with the Gilroy Beekeeping Association, a DIY enthusiast, and I hold a master’s degree in clinical psychology. My 20 years of experience as a self-taught engineer in high tech have shaped my approach to problem-solving and adaptability—qualities I’ll bring to the City Council.

Why Now?

Our city is at a crossroads and this election could set the tone for the future of Gilroy’s development. I believe it’s time for new leadership to step up and make sure we’re building a city that reflects our values. We’re standing at the epicenter of change and I’m not afraid to push for the answers, hold people accountable, and fight for what’s right for all of us.

This campaign is by Gilroyans, for Gilroy—no special interests, just what’s best for our city. Together, let’s shake things up and create a future we can all be proud of.

Thank you for your time, your trust and for joining me in creating the Gilroy we know is possible. Together, we’ll turn bold ideas into real change.
